A pair of hardcover volumes focusing on sports history and Scottish cultural heritage. The first volume is the first edition of Great Golfers: Their Methods at a Glance by George W. Beldam, published in London by Macmillan and Co., Limited in 1904. This octavo volume is bound in green publisher's cloth with a gilt-stamped golfer on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine. It features contributions from legendary golfers including Harold H. Hilton, J.H. Taylor, James Braid, Alex. Herd, and Harry Vardon. The work is extensively illustrated with 268 action photographs, many presented as sequence plates with grid overlays designed for technical swing analysis. The title page includes a dedication to Prime Minister A.J. Balfour and two owner signatures that have been struck through with ink. The second volume is Illustrations of Scottish History, Life and Superstition from Song and Ballad by William Gunnyon, published in Glasgow by Robert Forrester in 1879. This volume is bound in dark brown cloth with decorative blind-stamping and a gilt heraldic crest on the front cover featuring a lion rampant within a cross. The text was printed by Ballantyne, Hanson and Co. in Edinburgh and London.
