Bob Kuntz Signed 1990 Antique Golf Clubs 'The GolfWorks' w/ a Kuntz Restored J.E. Kelly Mashie
This lot features a professionally restored antique wood-shafted mashie golf club and a related instructional book, both associated with noted restorer Bob Kuntz. The mashie is constructed with a forged iron head and a polished wooden shaft, likely hickory. The club face features traditional horizontal line scoring. The back of the club head is stamped with the Professional Golfers Association of America logo and the text "APPROVED BY PRO / P.G.A. OF AMERICA." The center of the head is marked "MIAMI VALLEY / J.E. KELLY / DAYTON, O. / GOLF CLUB," and the lower edge is stamped "P-50 MASHIE." The head also bears the stamped numeral "3." The grip is wrapped in brown suede and carries a restoration label featuring a "BK" logo and the text "Restored By," followed by the handwritten signature and date "Bob Kuntz / 2005." The accompanying book is a softcover trade paperback titled "Antique Golf Clubs: Their Restoration and Preservation" by Bob Kuntz with Mark Wilson, published by The GolfWorks. The burgundy covers feature a photograph of the author. The volume contains a significant handwritten inscription on a preliminary page: "July 2004 / To Jay Kash / Truly a golf professional! / Bob Kuntz." The book contains technical chapters and photographic illustrations regarding the preservation of antique golf equipment.
