Among the most renown works of golf art unquestionably remains that of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's portrait depicting post-swing Bobby Jones painted influenced by Thomas Stephens' portrait. Here is an exemplary example of that print, signed by golf royalty and subject Jones with his rare and possibly more vulnerable distinct 'Rob' signature to 'Aunt Geneva' - a member of his inner sanction. That Eisenhower's original can be found over the fireplace in Butler Cabin at Augusta National, where it is the centerpiece as the new champion receives his green jacket from the past. The straight-forward title of Robert Tyre Bobby Jones Jr. by Dwight D. Eisenhower is printed in the lower right margin. The lower left margin bears a handwritten inscription in black ink using a steel-tip fountain pen that reads, For Aunt Geneva, With much love, Rob. This signature and inscription both have been authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) as the handwriting of Bobby Jones detailed in the FULL letter of authenticity. The print is presented in a gold-toned wooden frame with a tan and blue double mat. The reverse is finished with brown kraft paper and includes a hanging wire, a sticker for The Great Frame Up, and a taped newspaper clipping providing biographical information about Bobby Jones.
The career lawyer that co-founded the Augusta National Golf Club and a life-long amateur golfer. Merely mentioning Bobby Jones had an impact on The Masters would be selling him extremely short. He was The Masters, from building Augusta National Golf Club the way he envisioned doing it to starting the "Invitation Tournament" in 1934. The first playing was only four years of course after his Grand Slam year of 1930 in which he won the US Open, US Amateur, Open Championship and British Amateur. With encouragement from friend Bobby Jones, the amateur painter in Eisenhower painted his good friend while looking at Thomas Stephens' example of it. He then publicly presented it to Jones on March 7th, 1953.20 1/4" X 18 1/4"
