Jack Nicklaus Signed 1972 U.S. Open Commemorative Framed Display
Professionally framed ensemble honoring Jack Nicklaus and his 1972 U.S. Open victory at Pebble Beach. The center of the display features a black and white photograph of Nicklaus holding the U.S. Open Championship trophy. Below the photograph is a gold-tone engraved plaque set within a green and tan double mat, reading: 1972 US Open, Pebble Beach GL. Jack Nicklaus – Champion.
The lower portion of the display houses a limited edition 2000 United States Postal Service commemorative cachet titled THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE SALUTES THE GOLDEN BEAR. This envelope features a color illustration by artist Armando Delgado depicting Nicklaus at Pebble Beach. The cachet is marked with a handwritten edition number 113 / 3000 in the lower right corner. It bears a 33-cent California Gold Rush 1849 postage stamp and a pictorial postmark reading 100TH U.S. OPEN STATION JUNE 14, 2000 PEBBLE BEACH CA 93953.
The envelope is signed in black ink by Jack Nicklaus. A secondary signature followed by 100TH U.S. OPEN, appears below the postmark from the artist Delgado. The reverse of the frame includes a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity which verifies the Jack Nicklaus signature. The display is housed in a burl-wood style frame.
