Jack Nicklaus Signed Golden Bear Cachet
This lot features a commemorative envelope, also known as a cachet or first day cover style item signed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. The front of the white envelope features a printed color illustration on the left titled THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE SALUTES THE GOLDEN BEAR. The artwork, by artist Armando Delgado, depicts several scenes of Nicklaus throughout his career, including a portrait, him walking with a child, and celebrating a tournament victory. To the right of the signature is a special pictorial postmark from GOLDEN BEAR STATION in Pebble Beach, CA 93953, dated June 14, 2000. This date coincides with the beginning of the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The cancellation graphic includes a golf ball and a golf club head. A 33-cent United States postage stamp titled California Gold Rush 1849 is affixed to the upper right corner. The reverse side of the envelope contains a printed biographical summary of Nicklaus’s major championship records and professional achievements, along with a brief biography of the artist, Armando Delgado.
