James Farish, A Pair of Pen and Ink Prints of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews
Pair of architectural pen and ink prints on wove paper by James Farish, both depicting the historic Royal and Ancient Golf Club clubhouse in St. Andrews, Scotland. The works are executed in a precise draftsmanship style utilizing fine hatching and cross-hatching to define architectural details and depth. The first print, dated 1980, shows a perspective view of the clubhouse from the side, encompassing the surrounding grounds and a monument. The second print, dated 1979, presents a frontal view of the building facade with the Union Jack and the United States flags flying from the balcony. This print features a single point of red color on a golf flag in the foreground. Both works are signed in the plate at the lower right and titled in a script-style hand at the lower left. The 1979 print includes a label on the verso identifying it as print number 9 from a limited edition of 150, hand-signed by the artist.
