Jimmy Demart and Cary Middlecoff Wire Photo - Augusta - 4/5/1947

This original 8" x 10" wire photo shows Jimmy Demaret and Cary Middlecoff looking over the days pairings. They each turned in total scores of 140 over the first two days at the 1947 Masters Tournament. The most impressive thing about this photo is that this was Middlecoff's very first major after he gave up his dental practice to turn pro at the age of 26. He and Demaret were dead even, all tied up, which was big news given the situation. Middlecoff would end up tailing away from the pace he was on, but it was quite a thrill to say the least. Demaret went on to win his 2nd Masters Title, while eight years later Middlecoff would stay on track and win the 1955 Masters.
