Original 1971 Jack, Arnie & Others 'MacDivot' Comic Strip Signed by Mel Keefer for Chicago Tribune - Framed
Mel Keefer and J. Lansky original pen and ink production drawing for the MacDivot daily comic strip, dated April 12, 1971. The artwork is rendered on heavyweight wove illustration board and depicts a golf-themed narrative centered on the 19th Tournament of Champions at the La Costa course. The four-panel strip features caricatures of golfers Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player in the second panel, and a detailed action illustration of Billy Casper in the fourth panel. The artist utilizes bold linework, cross-hatching, and zip-a-tone patterns for shading. Marginalia includes a date stamp for APR 12 1971 along with various production notations in the upper margin reading MACDIVOT, Mon. 4-12, 4 COL ONLY, and 393. The bottom left corner includes a printed copyright for The Chicago Tribune World Rights Reserved. The board displays patches of white-out correction fluid used during the creative process. It is housed in a black metal frame with a double black and white mat.
