Three Hardcover Volumes on the History of Pine Valley, East Lake, and Hermitage Country Clubs.

A collection of three hardcover books documenting the history and architecture of legendary American golf courses. The first volume is titled Short History of Pine Valley. The octavo binding is composed of light green cloth boards with a dark green cloth spine strip. The front cover features the gilt-stamped title SHORT HISTORY OF PINE VALLEY below a central embroidered fabric shield patch displaying a pine tree and the initials PVGC in gold-tone thread (photo 3). Internally, the book contains a commemorative minute for founder George A. Crump dated 1918, a reproduction of a portrait by Julian Story, and a color aerial photograph of the course credited to a 1954 issue of Holiday Magazine (photo 5). The volume appears to be a mid-century club publication. The second volume is East Lake Country Club History: Home Course of Bobby Jones by Charles Elliott, published in 1984 by Cherokee Publishing Company, Atlanta, Georgia. This first edition includes a foreword by Furman Bisher. The volume is protected by a dust jacket featuring a sepia-toned photograph of the clubhouse and a printed image of a Bobby Jones postage stamp (photo 7). The internal pages include color maps of the course layout and black-and-white historical photographs (photos 10-12). The copyright page bears the ISBN 0-87797-092-0 (photo 9). The third volume is Hermitage Country Club: A History of the First 100 Years 1900-2000 by Bruce H. Matson, published in 2000 by The Donning Company. The quarto volume is bound in green cloth and accompanied by a glossy green pictorial dust jacket (photo 14). The copyright page bears a signature in silver ink reading Bruce H. Matson (photo 15). The work is illustrated throughout with archival photographs and modern color images of the course (photos 16-17). The rear dust jacket flap displays ISBN 1-57864-095-4 (photo 18).
