Two Pieces of Mid-Century Chicken in the Rough Advertising Memorabilia
This lot comprises two advertising collectibles from the restaurant chain Chicken in the Rough, which was founded by Beverly Osborne in Oklahoma City. Included is a stuffed mascot figure of a rooster dressed in golfing attire. The figure is constructed from tan corduroy-like fabric with black fabric accents on the lower body. It features a red felt comb and wattle, a striped fabric vest, and a tail composed of several colored felt strips in yellow, white, orange, and blue. A wire golf club is attached to the mascot's wing. The second item is a linen-texture promotional postcard manufactured by Curteich-Chicago as part of the C.T. Art-Colortone series. The postcard bears the production code 6B-H2576, which corresponds to a printing date of approximately 1946. The front of the card features the brand's golfing rooster mascot and various advertising slogans, including Fried 1/2 Chicken Served Unjointed Without Silverware and Everybite a tender delight. The reverse side details a promotional contest and lists the home office location in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The postcard includes a handwritten ink inscription identifying a restaurant location at the Dixieland Grill in Danville, Virginia.
