Walter Hagen Story First Edition Book & 1933 British Boys Open Programme


This lot features two vintage publications related to the history of professional golf. Item one is a first printing of The Walter Hagen Story by Walter Hagen, as told to Margaret Seaton Heck. Published by Simon and Schuster, Inc., New York, in 1956. This hardcover edition includes its original illustrated dust jacket featuring a full-length photograph of Hagen and a printed facsimile signature. The autobiography is divided into three thematic sections titled The Tee, The Fairway, and The Green, with introductory essays by H. G. Salsinger, Bill Cunningham, and Grantland Rice. The volume is illustrated with fifty black and white photographs and cartoons. Item two is an original souvenir program from the British Boys Open Golf Championship held at Carnoustie, Scotland, between August 21 and 26, 1933. The publication has a light blue textured paper cover with black typography and decorative scrollwork borders. The interior contains historical photographs of prominent golfers, including Walter Hagen and Percy Alliss. The back cover features a full-page illustrated advertisement for Hunters of Wellgate, Dundee, detailing pricing for contemporary golf clubs, bags, balls, and apparel.
