Wilson Gene Sarazen Limited Edition Commemorative Set Complete w/ Robert Mendralla 8802 Putter & Sand Iron
In 1997, To celebrate the 75 th anniversary (1922-
1997) of Gene Sarazen being a member of the
Wilson Advisory staff, Wilson issued a special
limited-edition group of items to include the
following
1. A Wilson Sand Iron #86/300. Included with the
iron is a certificate of authenticity—which
contains Sarazen’s description of his 1931
design. Sarazen states within that this club
played an integral part in his winning the Open
Championship at Princes Club and the US Open
at Fresh Meadow.
2. The Wilson 8802 putter with limited edition
certificate of authenticity signed by Wilson
senior Craftsman Robert Mendralla. This putter
comes with its own custom sheepskin like lined
canvas carrying case with leather trim and black
leather “RM” headcover.
3. A limited-edition Gene Sarazen golf bag. The
bag is made from cotton canvas, is sheepskin
like lined, canvas in Hunter Green, just like the
one Gene carried. It features top grain leather
handle, pull tabs and touch points, 3 way club
dividers, a zip up rain cover, and a Sarazen
facsimile signed ball pocket.
4. A group of three suede top and knitted head
covers ( 1, 3, and “X”)
The Squire's remarkable 75-year relationship with
the company was the longest-running contract in
sports history and lasting until his passing in 1999.
The Wilson-Sarazen relationship predated his 1935
Masters Double Eagle and was in place for each of
his Masters Tournament Honorary Starter drives
with fellow staffers and past champions Sam Snead
and Byron Nelson. Sarazen would win the first
seven of eight major championships using Wilson
irons, decades before Arnold Palmer's 1958 Masters
triumph. Everything is in unused, like new
condition.
Overall, a remarkable group of the highest quality
items that will display excellently in the golf room.
